This paper discusses traditional and temporary beekeeping with some of the bee products proposed as medicines. This material is presented for information only and does not imply endorsement by the author or by FAO. Use of these products is not recommended unless taken under the care and guidance of a qualified physician.
Transport of bee colonies and bee products (e.g. beeswax) across international boundaries can pose a risk of accidental introduction of insects, fungi or other potentially destructive agents. It is recommended that anyone planning to move bee colonies across international boundaries check with appropriate authorities in the country from where the products are to be exported and the countries into which the products are to be imported for import permit requirements, sanitary certificates or restrictions that might apply.
The designations employed and the presentation of material in this information product do not imply the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) concerning the legal or development status of any country, territory, city or area or of its authorities, or concerning the delimitation of its frontiers or boundaries. The mention of specific companies or products of manufacturers, whether or not these have been patented, does not imply that these have been endorsed or recommended by FAO in preference to others of a similar nature that are not mentioned.
The views expressed in this information product are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of FAO.
